Oliver ALWARD, 74, died at a nursing home at Bedford 8 a.m. Saturday of a cerebral hemorrhage. He was formerly a school teacher here before moving to Linton. He was b. May 2, 1875 near Wallace, the s/o Louis and Elizabeth Campbell Alward (sic). He married Opal Rhoder who survives. Other survivors are two sons, Arthur Alward of Wallace and Elmer Alward of Kingman. The funeral will be held at the family residence at Linton at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Oliver M. Alward, 73 years old, former school teacher and resident of Linton for the past 10 years, died at five o’clock Saturday morning, March 19, at the Stancombe Nursing Home in Bedford, Ind.
He had been ill for about six years and totally helpless since Jan. 9 when he fell and had been confined to the nursing home for only two weeks.
Mr. Alward was born in Fountain County, Indiana, May 2, 1875, the son of Lewis and Isabelle Alward. He had served as a school teacher in Parke and Fountain Counties for 28 years.
He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Opal A. Alward, to whom he was married Dec. 3, 1934; one stepson, Robert Bernes of Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers, Elmer and Arthur of Kingman; two nieces, four nephews and several cousins and a host of friends. A stepson, Leroy Bernes, was killed in the Solomon Islands during World War II and a son preceded him in death.
The body of the deceased was brought to the Welch and Cornett Funeral Home and later removed to the family residence on Second Street Southwest.
Funeral services were held at two o’clock Tuesday afternoon at the family residence with Captain Mary Kessie and Major Gertrude Calvert of the Linton Salvation Army officiating and burial was made in Fairview Cemetery at Linton.
Relatives from Fountain County attending the funeral were Elmer and Arthur Alward, Harold Alward, Faris Starnes, Jewel Myers and husband, Forein Myers, Earl Alward, Robert Alward, Betty Alward, Mrs. Earl Alward, Perry Myers, Mrs. Mary Glascock, Maynard Alward and Mrs. Harold Alward and children, Imogene and Richard.
